Wodonga Skills Stores

Bettie Jones (not her real name) is a 32-year-old single woman who has been working for the past seven years running an office in a business that focuses on Outdoor Industry Education which is a non-profit organisation.  Previous to this, Bettie was overseas for two years.

Like many people, Bettie has learned entirely on the job. She has no formal qualifications and has not completed any formal training.  Bettie is quite content with her employment and has good job satisfaction, although she requires a nationally recognised qualification to apply for her dream job in Saudi Arabia.

Bettie made an appointment to see a Wodonga Skills Stores consultant.  Through this she gained the confidence to be referred to a Registered Training Organisation for a qualification and is now also looking into further training opportunities.  25th September 2008

Yarrawonga Skills Stores

Scott Duncombe, of Yarrawonga, is a self-taught computer technician who has been working in Information Technology for five years at Leading Edge Computers which is closing their doors in a fortnight.  Scott currently holds no formal qualifications and like many business people, Scott has learned entirely on the job.

Scott is aware that in order to improve his chances to gain further employment in his chosen industry, he will need to gain a qualification.  Scott made an appointment with one of the friendly Skills Stores consultants available at Yarrawonga and has recently been referred for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) for the Certificate IV in Information Technology (Support) at Wodonga TAFE.  A part of his referral includes a Skills Stores entitlement of $250 which goes towards payment of his RPL.

Scott is well on his way to achieving his goals of gaining a Nationally Recognised Certificate and gaining further employment.  10th September 2008
