Flexible Study Options  the Key to Improving Employment

Wodonga TAFE has expanded the number of courses accessible through flexible delivery to include some of its more popular Information Technology and Management courses.

Business, Communication and Service Industries Senior Educator, Jon Bowdery, said people were constantly looking for ways to meet the changing demands of modern workplaces, while maintaining a sense of work-life balance.

“We understand that people want to invest in their future success through learning, but they have competing demands on their time and disposable income,” Mr Bowdery said.

“Many people can’t attend full time classes and so we are offering a number of courses in a combination of on and off campus study,” he said.

Mr Bowdery said the Certificate II in Business offered in an on and off campus combination was an ideal course for people wanting to begin or upgrade their skills in a modern office environment.

“For someone returning to the workforce, this will bring them up to speed with the most frequently used computer applications in an office environment,” he said.

Mr Bowdery said the flexible study options available in the Management courses were also very attractive.

“These are available through day and evening classes as well as through our Open Learning Centre which is a leader in the delivery of off campus training,” he said.

Mr Bowdery said there were a number of funding programs available for people looking to use training to improve their employment prospects, and Wodonga TAFE had a number of places available at its child care centre, Kids on Campus.

“The Victorian Governments ‘Parents Returning to Work’ program gives grants of up to $1,000 that can be used for costs associated with study including course fees, texts and child care,” he said.

“This grant is available for people living in Victoria who have been caring for dependent children and who haven’t worked full time or equivalent part time during the past two years, have at least one child 12 years or under and previously held paid employment,” Mr Bowdery added.

Mr Bowdery said another Victorian Government program, TAFE Pathways was available to people over 45 who were working up to 15 hours a week, sole parents without a post secondary qualification and have been out of the workforce for more than 12 months or for students for whom English is not the primary language spoken at home.

Full details regarding the courses are available by contacting Mr Bowdery on 02 6055 6637 and funding programs on 02 6055 6683.
