Motorsports Training Australia

Motorsports Training Australia (MTA) was launched at Wodonga TAFE in 1999 and is the original training facility for motorsports in Australia.

Recognised for the commitment to the motorsport industry, the Victorian Government granted Wodonga TAFE the status of Specialist Centre for Motorsports in 2002, making MTA the only specialist centre of its type in the country at that time.

Currently MTA conducts two 12-month, full-time courses:

Certificate III in Motorsport
This course is your entry into the world of motorsport. You can gain skills and knowledge in automotive, fabrication/welding, machining, composites, data logging, electrical, pit lane operations, assembling and preparing competition vehicles and support equipment and CAD drawing, as well as many other motorsports specific competencies. You will complete a mix of workshop training, theory classes and practical placement. Placement within motorsports teams at track events is a feature of this training. This course takes a ‘hands-on’ approach providing students with opportunity to put theory into practice.

Certificate IV in Motorsport/ Diploma of MotorsportMotorsports students in the workshop
Having completed foundation training in motorsports at Certificate III level, the Diploma is designed to build on your skills and knowledge, exploring more in-depth aspects of racing. A sample of aspects covered in the course includes:

• Management of:

  • pit lane activity
  • vehicle preparation
  • team development
  • data acquisition.

A sample of the more advanced technical aspects includes:

  • 3D CAD
  • finite element analysis
  • race strategies
  • CNC machining
  • testing with a dynamometer.

MTA has a working relationship with a number of professional and high profile motorsports teams. We collaborate with these teams to ensure students get work placement with real race event, trackside experience. Although MTA cannot guarantee employment as a result of these courses, students are exposed to the motorsports industry and are given opportunities to generate the contacts that can and do help secure positions in the motorsports industry. If you would like additional information MTA invites enquiries by phone on (02) 6055 6769 or email motorsports@wodonga.tafe.edu.au
