Turf

The Turf Industry is a horticultural industry that operates throughout Australia. It comprises two industry groups, the growing and sale of turf and the care and management of turf.
Turf management is associated with golf courses, bowling green, wicket and pitch preparation, racing clubs, institutional and recreational playing fields, commercial growing of turf operations and mowing contractors.


Why choose turf
The Turf industry encompasses work in a range of industries from Parks and Gardens to specialist Sporting Facilities. A qualification in Turf allows you the opportunity to work across a broad range of areas within the industry. Qualifications available range from Certificate II through to Diploma level.

Choosing Turf as a specific stream will give you a more in depth knowledge of the specialist areas within the turf industry than a general horticultural qualification. The turf industry also offers a great outdoors lifestyle.

Where it might lead?
Qualifications in Turf can lead to a wide range of opportunities including Councils, Botanic Gardens, Landscaping and a range of sporting facilities including Golf Clubs, Bowling Clubs, Tennis Courts and all manner of Sports Fields as well as the Construction of these facilities.

The work undertaken by those employed in the Turf Industry can comprise the following:
• Establishment and maintenance of commercial and recreational turf,
• Design and preparation of sports turf playing surfaces,
• Domestic mowing and turf maintenance operations,
• Commercial growing and supply of turf,
• Management of recreational and sport turf facilities,
• Provision of technical advice on turf irrigation, pest and disease control and turf management practices.
