Regional information
Albury Wodonga has a regional population of around 100,000 people and is beautifully placed on the banks of the Murray River, considered by many to be Australia’s greatest river. The river flows between the twin cities of Albury to the north in New South Wales and Wodonga to the south in Victoria and ambles through magnificent unspoiled landscapes of rolling hills, valleys and fertile farmland.
Albury Wodonga is centrally located to many and varied sport, recreation and leisure activities including first class wineries (a Rutherglen Winery won Australia’s first ever international gold medal for wine) snow fields (Falls Creek, Mt Hotham, Mt Buller and Mt Buffalo are all accessible for day trips), golf, tennis (Albury was the childhood home of tennis great Margaret Court) water sports, canoeing, hang gliding, parachuting to mention but a few.
The cities have abundant parklands, open spaces and bike tracks which are safe and accessible, so whether your interest is leisure activities or history, adventure or solitude, excitement, beauty, gourmet foods or shopping, our region has something for everyone.
Albury Wodonga is located in a unique natural environment. The Murray River plays host to abundant birds and wildlife and is lined with the mighty Murray River Red Gums, some of which are hundreds of years old and dominate the riverbanks.
Spectacular landscape views of the Murray River's journey through Albury Wodonga are available from Huon Hill. Only minutes from Wodonga's central business district, the new Lookout Platforms are 263m above the river with panoramic views over the entire region. |
