Qualifications framework

The Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) is the system that identifies the various levels of educational qualifications in Australia. Qualifications at Wodonga TAFE include:

Certificates I to IV – each of which generally takes up to the equivalent of one year of full-time study
Diploma – which is generally the equivalent of two years full-time study
Advanced Diploma – which is generally the equivalent of three years full-time study
Associate Degree – which is generally equivalent to two years full-time study towards a bachelor’s degree. Full credit may be given towards such a degree in a related area.

AQF qualifications are nationally recognised and progress through increasingly complex work and learning situations, which prepares you for more responsibility in the workplace or further education. AQF qualifications require you to successfully complete a range of tasks to demonstrate your competence. In many cases, the material studied can be related to the tasks you perform in your workplace, and the studies you do at one level may reduce the time you need to study to gain a qualification at a higher level.
Apprenticeships and traineeships are courses that have formal employment requirements and contracts. They involve the student in a combination of work and training to obtain the qualification.

The Wodonga TAFE Quality Management System is designed to comply with the requirements of the AQF outlined above and two other major quality standards:
The Australian Quality Training Framework (AQTF) – a set of quality standards designed specifically for Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) such as Wodonga TAFE
ISO 9001:2000 standards – the internationally proven and recognised quality system.

Advanced Diploma	Supervisory or management	Satisfactory completion of a Diploma or mature age
Diploma	Designed for those seeking work in a supervisory or middle management role, or assisting professionals	Year 12 or mature age
Certificate IV	Designed to give the necessary skills for supervisory positions, running a small business and assisting professionals	Year 12 or mature age
Certificate III	Basic skills for a range of occupations that require vocational skills	No set prerequisites
Certificate III (Apprenticeship)	Working with an employer in a specific trade, or eventually running your own business	Employer sponsorship for apprenticeships (Year 10 or Year 11 is usually an advantage)
Certificate II (Traineeship)	Employment in a range of occupations within industries	Employer sponsorship for traineeships (Year 10 or Year 11 is usually an advantage)
Certificate I	Skills-based courses preparing people for specific employment	No set prerequisites
